Service Story
John Ilislow, a butcher from Zeehan, followed his father by enlisting with the A.I.F. on the 31st of March, 1916 aged 21 years. He served with the 40th Infantry Battalion and embarked aboard the ship HMAT Ballarat on the 8th of August, 1916. During his experience in war he served in France. The last months of John’s service were spent in hospital until his eventual return to Australia and discharge from the Army.
