Service Story

James Vivian Whitchurch was born in Launceston, Tasmania. He enlisted for the Australian Imperial Forces in Derby, Tasmania on the 11th November, 1916, at the age of 22; leaving his previous trade as a miner behind. His regimental number was 7350 and he held the rank of a Private in the 12th Battalion. After serving with his battalion, Whitchurch was discharged on the 15th June, 1918 at the Anglesea Barracks, Hobart due to asthma and bronchitis.
