Horace Buck enlisted in his home state of South Australia in May 1916 and was allotted to the 6th reinforcements for the 43rd Battalion. At the time he was a 21 year old single piano tuner from Knoxville, South Australia. He had seen service with the cadets, citizen forces and performed several months of home service before enlisting for active service. In March 1917 whilst in England he became dangerously ill and was returned to Australia for discharge in August with nervous debility. Horace later married and had one daughter. During WW2 he served with the 22 Salvage Company from 1940—1945. He died at Launceston on 14 February 1969.
