Anxious to collect some mail from the Deloraine Post Office, Frederick Briggs failed to wait until the car he was travelling came to a stop. In the process he fell back-wards and hit his head. In April 1916 he was transferred to the 14th Field Artillery Details. On 23 April 1917 he was transferred to the Army Veterinary Corps where he remained until return-ing to Australia in March 1919. He was boarded in September 1917 and it was recommended that he return to Australia for home duties due to his age, but the recommendation was not carried out.
