Service Story

Fred Collinson was born at Manchester, England. Prior to enlisting in July 1915, he had worked driving horse drawn buses for Southwood Coaches and as a groom. On arrival in Egypt in March 1916 he was briefly transferred to the 47th Battalion, the 15th’s daughter battalion. In 1917 charges were brought against him for infringing orders and conduct prejudice to the good order of the battalion. Despite not being wounded, in November 1919 he was discharged medically unfit. Fred returned to Launceston where he lived until his death on 4 August 1967. He did not marry.
