Service Story
Private David Evan Edward Williams, a 32 year old labourer from Dover, Tasmania, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A49 Seang Choon on 23 September 1916 as part of the 3rd reinforcement for the 40th Battalion. His Battalion, made up primarily of Tasmanians, fought at Flanders and in the Somme valley, and was also part of the force that drove the Germans back to the Hindenburg Line. Alter more than 2 years fighting on the Western Front Private Williams returned to Australia 6 May 1919.
