Claude Stanley was born in 1875 which made him approximately 50 year old when he enlisted in October 1915. As an experienced horseman, he was allotted to the Australian Remount Unit 1, Squadron 4. Apart from taking a trip to Salonika, presumably with horses and/or supplies, his time in the AIF is unremarkable. He departed Suez on 18 October 1916 for return to Tasmania where he was then discharged. Post war he returned to Launceston and worked as a labourer. He did not marry. Claude Stanley died at the Launceston General Hospital on 30 November 1947.
