Service Story
Charles IIlslow, a widowed miner from Hamilton, signed up with the A.I.F. at the age of 44, on the 4th of August, 1915 and embarked from Melbourne on the 12th November, 1915 aboard the HMAT Asconius. He served in the 12th Infantry Battalion and was later transferred to the 4th Australian Division Artillery, and served in Egypt, Turkey, France, and England. He spent some time in England in hospital until his eventual return and discharge in March 1918.
