Service Story

In July 1915, Albert Boscoe was a 28 year old single sawmill hand from George Street, Launceston when he enlisted. He was allotted to the 4th Reinforcements for the 58th Battalion. He would turn out to be a ‘hard case’ regularly in trouble with the hierarchy for absenting himself illegally or undergoing treatment for an acquired disease. Private Boscoe returned to Australia in July 1919. In May 1927 Boscoe and another were working a tin-section on the Cascade River about 8 miles out of Derby when a large stone rolled from the face and crushed him after slipping into the race. He was carried as far as the local sawmill but died from his injuries.
