Frederick was a 19 year old farmer from Table Cape when he volunteered for enlistment in March 1918 and was allotted to the 1918 Reinforcements. On reaching England he was sent to the 9th Training Battalion and allotted to the 40th Battalion. On 29 January 1919 he departed from Southampton for France and service with the 16th Depot Unit of Supply remaining there until June 1919. He departed England the following month. Post war he spent a number of years working for the Lighthouse Service around the state before retiring to Sandy Bay. He died at his daughter’s residence on 14 January 1981 (81)
