Sydney Burgess

Sydney Burgess was taken on strength with the 52nd Battalion in July 1916. He too was wounded at Mouquet Farm in September 1916, sustaining a chest wound. He was wounded in action on two further occasions – in August 1917 when he sustained a shrapnel wound to his face and in May 1918 when he received a further shrapnel wound this time to his left foot. In October 1918 he embarked for Australia and to be discharged. In later life the injuries that Sydney had sustained caused him much pain and discomfort. He died in September 1971 and is buried at Carr Villa Cemetery.
