Welcome to The Headstone Project
The Headstone Project came into being with the sole purpose of ensuring that all Australian First World War veterans have their last resting place suitably marked in such a way that recognises their service.
To fund our work we rely on grants and the generosity of the public. Have a look at our site and what we do – if you would like to help please consider making a donation here.
We need volunteers to help us continue our work around Australia. If you would like to get involved, you can find resources here that might be helpful.
To understand the impact of The Headstone Project’s work, Geraldine Cox (grand daughter of Kenneth McVicar at rest in Port Pirie Cemetery SA) said some beautiful words following her grandfathers headstone unveiling in 2018:
“It gave me an experience I could never imagine – reconnecting with people I knew very little of through a man none of us had ever met. It really is difficult to find the words to explain how amazing this project is and the passion and dedication of its volunteers.”
